Monstrous Monolith

In this recent article in the San Francisco Weekly, New College of California’s academic vice president, Dr. Linda James Myers, accused protesting students of, “bringing down the school and the administration.” But given the numerous scandals exposed there over the past couple years, scandals that include systematic threats, intimidation, and harassment against faculty and students — not to mention the financial improprieties and academic fraud — isn’t bringing down the administration (including Dr. Myers) a moral obligation? Indeed, if corruption at New College has become so entrenched that the only way to prevent further harm is to close it down, isn’t it the responsibility of alumni to see that oversight and enforcement agencies perform their duties expeditiously?

In fact, if things are as bad as they appear, the only humane thing to do is to put this academic monster out of its misery.
