Hazards of Mayhem

Reading recently about direct actions involving thousands of people in shutting down illegal industrial operations in Iceland and the UK, it occurs to me that the future is here. What just a decade ago seemed like a trajectory toward oblivion, determined by the malign neglect of market-driven modern states, has — through accelerated official lawlessness and aggression — arrived brashly in our face. What with the intensification of repression and contempt for the rule of law, the collapse of social order seems a foregone conclusion.

Given the consolidation of corruption as a way of life in American business and government, it is only a matter of time before the frustrations of futile dissent and protest will turn to sabotage, vigilanteism and senseless retaliation.

It now remains for sober souls and thoughtful minds to navigate between the hazards of mayhem.
