Viva Autonomia!

While America has a rapidly growing homeless population on the streets, Italy has a thriving network of independent, self-supporting social centers that meet community needs without government or corporate interference. As the US continues to be driven on the rocks by fraud in government and commerce, the need for self-organized, voluntary services to replace those withdrawn by bureaucracies is bound to grow in leaps and bounds.

For the millions of Americans currently or soon to be thrown on the mercy of civil society, the lack of official social services will force those without resources to create their own alternatives. Italy’s social centers — housed in abandoned buildings throughout the country — are noted to be among the country’s most vital cultural institutions—providing food, shelter, clothing, medicine, and education for those who cannot afford it. With the US Congress in the process of handing the US Treasury to the banking industry, social centers are a solution whose time has come in America.

We only hope those who take the initiative can withstand the predictable government reaction opposed to people solving their problems without government permission or control. Viva Autonomia!
